Reimagining a Classic,
Designed for a Growing Family.

This project presented an open and flexible brief to reimagine and transform a run-down 1940s bungalow, giving it a renewed sense of purpose and longevity.

The proposal carefully balances respect for the original structure with a contemporary intervention, introducing an additional floor to provide much-needed bedrooms for the owners’ growing family. This vertical extension not only increases capacity but also redefines the proportions and presence of the home within its setting.

Internally, the reconfiguration allows for improved spatial flow, enhanced natural light, and a clearer relationship between living and private areas, creating a more functional and comfortable environment for everyday family life.

Externally, the considered use of render and timber delivers a clean, contemporary aesthetic that refreshes the existing building while retaining warmth and character. The introduction of a butterfly mono-pitched roof adds architectural interest and a dynamic silhouette, reinforcing the home’s modern identity.

Together, these elements create a cohesive and distinctive design that transforms the original bungalow into a confident, future-focused family home.
